Telephone Scammers Impersonating Decatur Ambulance Service Employee

DATE:  September 22, 2016

Macon County State’s Attorney Jay Scott and Macon County Sheriff Thomas Schneider announced today that area residents are receiving scam calls from a person identifying himself as an employee of Decatur Ambulance Service.  The caller, who has a heavy foreign accent but provides a very American sounding name, claims to be at the scene of an accident involving a family member of the intended victim.  The object of the scam is to obtain credit card information under the pretext of paying for DAS services.

Calls have also been made from scammers claiming to be DAS employees demanding immediate payment by credit card for past services of the company.

If you receive either of these calls, hang up.  If you suspect a scam has been committed or attempted, please call the Elder Fraud Hotline at 217-615-7582.  All calls are answered by State’s Attorney Jay Scott or Sheriff Thomas Schneider.  To learn more about scams visit the State’s Attorney’s website at www.sa-macon-il.us.
