STATE'S ATTORNEY JAY SCOTT ANNOUNCES EXEMPLARY CITIZENS AWARDS
The ability of law enforcement to keep the public safe and to protect the rights of crime victims depends in large part upon the assistance of everyday citizens. We are all too often confronted with apathy and a lack of cooperation, which can make the job of effective criminal prosecution difficult. Those who are willing to be vigilant citizens, to provide information to the authorities, to appear in court and testify, or to provide other support to law enforcement, make it possible for us to successfully prosecute criminals in our community, and are the reason Macon County's crime rates continue to decline and to remain at lower levels than other similar counties in Illinois. For this reason, the State's Attorney's Office would like to recognize those who have gone above and beyond in helping us fight crime.
I will be holding a press conference on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the lobby of the Decatur Civic Center, 1 Gary K. Anderson Plaza, Decatur, Illinois, to present awards to 14 unsung heroes who took a stand for justice, and who have rightfully earned the honor of being named Exemplary Citizens.
A list of the 2014 Exemplary Citizens Award Recipients, together with a description of their contributions to law enforcement, is attached.
