The ability of law enforcement to keep the public safe and to protect the rights of crime victims depends in large part upon the assistance of everyday citizens.  We are all too often confronted with apathy and a lack of cooperation, which can make the job of effective criminal prosecution difficult.  Those who are willing to be vigilant citizens, to provide information to the authorities, to appear in court and testify, or to provide other support to law enforcement, make it possible for us to successfully prosecute criminals in our community, and are the reason Macon County’s crime rates continue to decline and to remain at lower levels than other similar counties in Illinois.  Last July my office held the first Exemplary Citizens Award Ceremony, at which we recognized 14 citizens who went above and beyond in helping us fight crime.  We have compiled an equally impressive list of 12 award recipients who assisted us over the course of the past year.

The 2nd Annual Exemplary Citizens Award Ceremony will be held this Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the lobby of the Decatur Civic Center, 1 Gary K. Anderson Plaza, Decatur, Illinois.  We hope that you will join us to honor these unsung heroes who took a stand for justice, and who have rightfully earned the honor of being named Exemplary Citizens.

A list of the 2015 Exemplary Citizen Award recipients, together with a description of their contributions to law enforcement, is attached.
